Next step for BLOOM, Haarlem

Bloom garden

View of the ground floor garden in BLOOM, Haarlem

The BLOOM residential development in the old Sonneborn terrain in Haarlem is making the next step towards realisation and we are excited to be part of this project in our home town.

On behalf of the developer VORM and In collaboration with Architect VAN AKEN part of Sweco, who were responsible for the design of the different types of housing including 163 new homes, VE-R was assigned the design of the inner garden of the complex as well as the design of a roof garden on top of a new parking garage. The planting plan includes a wide range of species with colourful perennials, fragrant bushes, bee-friendly herbs and grasses, different park trees, rich shore vegetation and climbers that highlight the sophisticated details of the facades; thus, a lush, publicly accessible ‘hofje’ with a water storage pond is created on the ground floor, while a green low-maintenance roof with herbs and sturdy perennials attracts insects and further enhances the biodiversity of the garden.

The municipality of Haarlem is expected to issue the building permit later this year while construction work is planned to start in the first quarter of 2025.
