We were recently honoured to receive the invitation from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design to contribute to the exhibition Urban Natures: A Technological and Political History, 1600–2030 with our project for the Msimbazi lower basin in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The exhibition showcases projects and practices over the centuries that highlight the role of nature in the urban context; from managing soil and water, to reconciling urban development with the natural elements and to dealing with climate change and environmental risks.

Our LMUP project addresses recurrent flooding of the Msimbazi River and advances strategies for safe urbanisation in a rapidly growing city. At the same time, it delivers a large city park that provides meaningful, resilient public space and resists hazardous encroachment.

The project was realised in colaboration with: DASUDA, CDR, Deltares, and Norplan and was funded by the World Bank.
